Contraceptive Implants

Contraceptive implants are a highly effective and long-lasting form of birth control. These tiny, flexible rods, about the size of a matchstick, are inserted under the skin of your upper arm.

They steadily release hormones that prevent pregnancy for an extended period.

Types of Contraceptive Implants

There are a few types of contraceptive implants available, each with its unique characteristics:

Nexplanon: Nexplanon is a single-rod implant that provides contraception for up to three years. It releases a hormone called etonogestrel.

The contraceptive implant is a relatively straightforward and minimally invasive procedure.

Here's what to expect:

Consultation: We start with a telephone consultation to discuss your medical history, contraception preferences, and assess your suitability for the contraceptive implant. Our experienced healthcare professionals will answer any questions you may have.

Implantation: Once you've decided on the implant, we'll arrange an in-clinic appointment for the actual procedure.

Here's how it works:

Preparation: We'll clean the area of your arm where the implant will be inserted.

Anaesthesia: A local anaesthetic will be administered to numb the area.

Insertion: The implant is placed just under the skin of your upper arm. The process is quick and usually takes a few minutes.

Bandage: We'll cover the small incision with a bandage to keep it clean and promote healing.

Post-Procedure Care

After the implantation, you may experience some mild bruising, swelling, or tenderness at the insertion site which are typically short-lived and given further aftercare advice
